Skittles Colours Experiment

 Aim:

I want to find out what happens when you mix Skittle colours.

Method:

Equipment

  • Skittles
  • Petri dish
  • Warm water
  • Beaker
  • White background
Instructions

  1.  Get your equipment.
  2.   Place your petri dish on the the white background.
  3.   Put your skittles around the inside edge of the petri dish.
  4.   Pour warm water gently into the middle of the petri dish.
  5.   Observe what happens.
Prediction:

I think the colour of the skittles is gonna fade and make a weird colour altogether and make a interesting  image.

Results:

I saw the colour of each skittle slowly dissolving into the water. The colours spread out in a circle until the colours ran into each other.

Discussion:

  1. The colours dissolved ( when a solid is mixed into a liquid, creating a solution).                              Why did the colours spread? Skittles are coated with food colouring and sugar. When you pour water on the skittles the coloured coating dissolves making the colour spread through the water. Where the there was a low concentration of colour.
